Organisational Beliefs and objectives

People who are described as having a learning difficulty are individuals with the same human value and rights as everyone else. The purpose of PFL is to enable people with a learning difficulty to have a voice and to improve the quality of their lives by providing the following:

  • The opportunity and support to gain new skills by building on those already achieved by each individual
  • Support towards dealing with any harassment and discrimination they may face
  • The opportunity and support to (a) to develop relationships within the community in which they live, and (b) establish themselves as valued and contributing members of their community
  • The opportunity, the support and the power to make real and informed choices about how to live their lives
  • The opportunity to become aware of their personal value and achieve positive recognition, self respect and respect from others
  • The opportunity and support to form valued relationships with friends, neighbours, relatives and people who work for them

People First Lambeth works to achieve its purpose through:
  • The provision of a range of projects for people with a learning difficulty
  • Seeking to build relationships with local and national government, health authorities, research and campaigning organisations, trusts and the wider community, through which the interests and needs of people with learning difficulties can be promoted
