Our History

People First Lambeth started in 1988 as a part of another project called Lambeth Accord.

Some of the people who came to the first meetings still come to groups here today and some of them are even on our management committee.

We became independent of Lambeth Accord in 2001. This was when we first became a Charity in our own right.

From that point we had our own Company Directors who run the Charity. All of the Directors at People First Lambeth have learning disabilities. This is very important because it means that we REALLY control the organisation.

We want you to give us your memories or stories about People First Lambeth.

Wenda talked about when people first went to Canada with Jackie and Ray for two weeks to a People First conference.

Maggie reminded us of all the people who had worked here, like Andrew, Tom, Jackie, Linnett, Debbie (Roberts), Chris, Jane, Ray, Lippi, Ripa, Alison. Ian said how much he enjoyed coming here and how everyone here is friendly.

Jennifer said that she thought that People First had done very well. She also said that it was a very friendly place. Jen also talked about the book We Are Not Stupid that she has written with other members here.

Wenda said that she joined People First when she was a school leaver. She said she had good memories of that time and of working with Jackie, Linett and Jane.

Jennifer talked about how she remembered interviewing workers for jobs at People First.
