People First Lambeth is a charity that supports people with learning difficulties to stand up for themselves and take control of their lives.

We offer self advocacy groups. The Groups are mostly supported by two people one of them who has a learning disability. Their job is to make sure that the members of the group can control the group and decide what will happen in the group.

These groups change form time to time because the group members want to do something else or because the funding has ended. As well as the groups we have now that you can see here we have also hosted many other groups over the years.

We also work towards making the lives of people with learning difficulties better by campaigning and by supporting people with learning difficulties to campaign.

We believe:

People who are said to have a learning difficulty have the same value and rights as everyone else.

We think people with learning difficulties need:

the help they need to get new skills by building on the powers that they already have
the chance and the support to make things better between them and the people who live around them
the support and the power to make real and informed choices about how they live their lives
to be aware of their own value and to get respect from others
the support and chance to build good relationships with other people

We work with other organisations to make sure that they are aware of issues facing people with learning difficulties. We do a lot of work with local and national organisations around issues that effect people with learning difficulties.

People First Lambeth takes part in national conferences that talk about how the lives of people with learning difficulties can be made better.

People First Lambeth support groups of people with learning disabilities to carry out research and to write about it.

We try to make sure that people with learning disabilities get paid jobs.

We support our members to plan and deliver training to people who work with people with learning disabilities.
